Matthew Schenk Joins Detroit Water and Sewerage Department
3/28/2012 - Matthew Schenk has joined the City’s Water and Sewerage Department as chief operating officer and chief compliance officer.
With his many years of service to the City of Detroit and Wayne County, Schenk will report directly to DWSD Director Sue McCormick in his new role.
“I’m looking forward to having Matt’s assistance,” McCormick said. “He will be an asset to us in implementing our compliance efforts.”
Mayor Dave Bing views this role as key to DWSD in meeting its compliance obligations.
“Matt brings organizational change skills as well as much needed legal and regulatory experience to this vital role,” said Mayor Bing. “We believe his experience will be crucial in facilitating DWSD’s operational improvements as well as its timely exit from federal oversight.”
Schenk served in the City’s Law Department as assistant corporation counsel and as City Council liaison, and, most recently, chief of staff to Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano.
“I’ve worked with Matt over the past year and I’m impressed with his style, experience and integrity,” said DWSD Board of Water Commissioners Chair James Fausone. “He’ll be a welcome addition to DWSD.”
